Ifga is the photo lab’s wonder dog. He’s named for the Navy photographer’s IFGA formula. This is image-focal length, ground-altitude formula that photographers use to determine how much real estate a photograph captures from an airplane. We don’t have to take care of Ifga, he fends for himself quite well. Ifge sees it has his job to take care of us, his fellow pack members. At work or play Ifga is always there. He went with us to Na Trang and I believe he walked the city with Traxler, Van Housen and I. The men hold Ifga in such high regard that we talk constantly of who gets to take him back to the World. In a way that honor fell to me. A few months back from Nam and some neighbor kids bring me a puppy as I sat on the step of my GI Bill-purchased home. A kid says if I can name the puppy, I can have it. I naturally name the scampering little mutt Ifga, and explain his name for all the years he was with me.
