The Road
On shore duty stateside for most of my Navy tour, it seems the government conspires to send me with camera to wherever I find action. From boot camp in San Diego I’m sent to Moffett Field near San Francisco in time to photograph the Summer of Love. Next, I marry Diane Rowenhorst, a hometown girl, and we roar off to the Naval School of Photography in Pensacola, Florida. After several months in photography school, we travel north to Washington D. C. for a two year assignment at the Defense Intelligence Agency. From D.C., Diane and I camp our way across the Trans Canadian Highway. We return down California’s Highway 1 to Moffett Field for a few months before I’m deploy overseas to the Philippines and Vietnam. The road trip alone generates photographs worth showing and stories worthy of telling.
